For contractors

Being employed by WECGROUPS

If a recruitment agency has placed you on an assignment and told you that you will be paid through WECGROUPS, this page explains what that means.

Your status

You are our employee

You sign a contract of employment with WECGROUPS. You are not self-employed and you are not a limited company contractor. You have the statutory rights of an employee, including:

  • Holiday pay
  • Workplace pension enrolment if you meet the eligibility criteria
  • Statutory Sick Pay if you meet the qualifying conditions
  • Statutory maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental pay where applicable
  • Protection under the National Minimum Wage and Working Time Regulations

Your pay

How your pay is calculated

Your agency agrees an assignment rate with the end client. That rate is paid to us and it covers more than your gross wage. From it, the following are met:

  1. Our margin — a fixed amount per pay period, stated in your Key Information Document
  2. Employer's National Insurance contributions
  3. Employer's pension contribution, if you are enrolled
  4. Apprenticeship Levy, where it applies
  5. Holiday pay

What remains is your gross taxable pay. From your gross pay we then deduct Income Tax, employee National Insurance, employee pension contributions, and student loan repayments where applicable.

Every one of these figures appears on your payslip. If anything on your payslip is unclear, contact us and we will explain it line by line.

Assignment rate
  • Our margin
  • Employer's National Insurance
  • Employer's pension contribution
  • Apprenticeship Levy, where it applies
  • Holiday pay
  • Gross taxable pay
Then Income Tax, employee NI, employee pension and student loan are deducted from gross taxable pay to reach net pay.
What the assignment rate covers, in the order set out on this page. Amounts depend on your tax code, pension contribution, student loan plan and hours worked.

Straight answers

What we will never tell you

We will not tell you what percentage of your rate you will take home, because we do not control your tax code, your personal allowance, your student loan plan, or your pension contribution rate. Any company that advertises a guaranteed take-home percentage is either making it up or operating a scheme that HMRC will challenge.

We operate standard PAYE at statutory rates. There is no arrangement available with us that reduces your tax below what you owe.
